Ed Reports From Mo West--Wednesday

(Hear the actual voice-mail message Ed left.)

For Momentum West, yesterday was probably one of the most dynamic days we could have ever experienced.

We left early in the morning and went up to Burbank where we were trained and motivated in ministries to the overlooked in preparation for our ministry to the thousands of homeless people in the Burbank area.

In the morning we went to a WowJam event. WowJam does events in urban centers all across the US and around the world. We were able to learn what to do, what not to do and how to really impact other people. The students not only enjoyed it but it was also a really helpful, practical time.

Then in the afternoon we went down to Skid Row. Skid Row is the bottom of the line for a lot of people. The WowJam program included many activities students could participate in such as handing out flyers, free food, free haircuts, rocking of babies, face painting, family photos and more. There were free activities, and opportunities for giveaways such as dishes, fans and bicycles. Their program included all of these items. Then as things drew closer to the dinner hour, literally thousands of homeless people assembled there. We tried to encourage and share Christ with the people.

About that time the music began. It was loud and it was fun. The people began to crowd around the tent where Stephan and his wife, Peaches, who used to be in the group Peaches and Herb did the music. After a little over an hour of preliminaries, Stephen shared with the crowd the need for following Christ, the need for repentance from sin, and the need for following Him.

As a result, our kids were able to do one-on-one counseling with the people who received Christ. They were able to pray with them, give them Bibles and tell them about the baptismal service at Santa Monica Bay. It was without a doubt one of the most impactful days that anybody could have experienced.

After the event was over the kids continued reaching out to the homeless people. They were really grasping the need for evangelism. The sharing time that night for Momentum West was incredible as they shared how their hearts were broken for the needs of others.

Continue to pray for the impact this conference has on students. This is a conference that we have considered to be a little more “edgy” in a sense that it is challenging people to move out of their comfort zone. Continue to pray that God would use this in a great way at Momentum West.
