The Ministry: The Amor Ministry trip is a short-term mission trip based on touching the lives of families in Mexico at the point of their greatest need by building them houses.
The Project: Amor typically builds a two-room home with a concrete floor, stucco-finished exterior, weather sealed roof, two windows, and a door. An Amor house is a simple design, built so that a group without skilled labor or power tools can still complete the project.
The Costs: We have worked with Amor to secure a price of $105 per person for a three-day, 2-night stay at their rustic campground. This price does not include the cost of food or travel or camping gear and supplies. It does include the building materials, the building project, Amor personnel for training and oversight, and a site at the Amor campground.
The Plan: If you want to sign your group up for Amor Ministries, you will need to contact them at 619.662.1200 ext. 6 and tell them you are with Momentum youth conference. You'll want to read their Trip Planning Manual for complete details about an Amor Trip and what you can expect
Other notes: An Amor experience is extremely rustic, complete with outhouses and bucket showers, helping your students understand, in a small way, how a Mexican family lives all year long. Groups can choose to bring their own tents, camping equipment, and food or sign up with Camping Pros to have it all provided for a fee. Groups also need to supply their own transportation, complete with Mexican insurance, and secure the proper travel documents. Please note that forms and payment are required prior to the start of the event. Visit their website for more information.
